𝄞 Music Theory! This is the topic of how music works and why it, well, does what it does and sounds how it sounds.
𝄞 Duets! We will have tons of opportunities to play different music at the same time so you can build your playing independence.
𝄞 Sight-reading! Every lesson, we'll practice the art of sight-reading. This is when a musician plays music without looking at it or preparing/practicing beforehand. It's an exciting way to continue building confidence AND your reading skills.
𝄞 Music Psychology! Our brains are SO CRAZY! You'll learn how brains work in order for you to become your best musical self through thoughtful practice sessions! This topic also includes common human emotional responses like nervousness, stage-fright, fight-or-flight response, etc.
𝄞 Band, Region, Solo Material! Don't forget, we get to work on YOUR goals, so of course we'll play anything else from band you may need help on: warm-ups, concert music, Region auditions, and music for Solo & Ensemble season.
𝄞 Flute-Specific Warm-Ups! Are your band warm-ups not engaging or exciting any more? To thrive as a musician, we need new challenges to keep our brains engaged so we're learning! In lessons, we typically learn 3-5 new warm-ups every school year that focus on the entire flute: tone, technique, breathing, posture, dynamics, etc.
This might sound like a lot, but don't worry, we'll set manageable goals every step of the way.
