Hello, hello!
Most students I have the privilege of working with, the parents and I never meet face-to-face. Here is some information about me to help bridge that gap!
♪ I grew up in a small, southeast Texas town and began playing recorder at age 6; my parents would drive to the nearest music shop for lessons. At 8 years old, I switched to flute, had ONE flute lesson with a new teacher which wasn't enjoyable, and ended up dropping lessons, but joined my local community band, The Invincible Eagle Band, as soon as I joined middle school band in 6th grade. Lo and behold, here I am my senior year of high school looking for a music program to join after turning down culinary school. Luckily, McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA was looking for flute majors and they had scholarships to offer, so off I went to Louisiana for five years! During my time at McNeese, I realized exactly what I wanted to do for a career: be the teacher for others that I wish I had while growing up!
Below is a list of career highlights and experiences:
♪ I have two undergraduate degrees from McNeese State: Bachelor of Music Education, K-12 and Bachelor of Music, Flute. I minored in piano, too!
♪ I have a Master of Music degree in Flute Performance (with an emphasis in Pedagogy) from Texas State University in San Marcos, TX.
♪ 2009, start of my teaching career. Since then, this side job has grown into an enormous passion and full-time business.
♪ 2011, 3rd place piccolo in the Louisiana Flute Society masterclass competition
♪ 2013, selected performer in the Baylor University Flute Seminar with Marianne Gedigian, Jim Walker, & Francesca Arnone
♪ 2014, invited to join the Silver Voices professional flute choir, which was selected to perform at the National Flute Convention in Chicago, IL
♪ 2015, invited to perform as principal flute for Starlight Symphony Orchestra in Kyle, TX
♪ 2015, selected performer for Balabonov's House Music Days International Festival in Plovdiv, Bulgaria
♪ 2018, 2nd place flute & 3rd place piccolo in the Louisiana Flute Society masterclass competitions
♪ 2019, began Lecturer of Flute position at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX
♪ 2020, invited to join the Brazos Breeze professional flute choir, which was selected to play at the 2020 National Flute Convention in Dallas, TX
♪ Experience in: musical theatre, orchestral playing/auditions, marching band & auditions, playing with church and children's choirs, weddings, woodwind quintets, flute choirs, and leadership positions
♪ Member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Sigma Alpha Iota in addition to honor fraternities.
♬ Chestnut and Daisy, my two small dogs, are the best practice buddies in the world. Daisy likes to sing along!
♬ Other passions include: baking/cooking, tea-drinking, and traveling.
♬ I currently reside in San Antonio, TX and teach in the following additional areas: New Braunfels, Schertz/Cibolo, and San Antonio
